HORNCAMPS! offers participants the choice of three distinctly different programs.
Audition 101 is for horn players looking to hone their audition materials and skills. Standard orchestral and military band repertoire will be covered along with Mozart #3 and #4 and Strauss #1. Low horn players seeking auditions in Europe may also bring the Neuling Bagatelle. Audition 101 members will participate in classes and lectures geared toward improving their success at auditions. The week may culminate in a mock audition. Audition 101 is for serious college students and adult hornists on the audition circuit. Serious, and qualified, HS seniors may be admitted with teacher recommendation, a recording of the first movement of Mozart #3 or #4 or Strauss #1, and artist acceptance.
ABCs of Horn Playing
The ABCs of Horn Playing is for middle and high school players interested in improving their general horn playing. We will work both on problems personal to your playing and general technical skills, using materials of your choice. ABCs of Horn Playing members will participate in lessons geared toward improving their horn playing, classes to improve aural skills, and sessions to develop general confidence as musicians. ABCs of Horn Playing is also open to college students who are not comfortable with Audition 101, or simply feel that the intensity of Audition 101 is not right for them. Participants in the program will be grouped by ability levels for the most comprehensive experience possible.
If you enjoy playing the horn but are not seeking professional employment, Adult Experience is the program for you. Studying with a master teacher in a collegial environment, participants will work on fundamentals and skills that they can use in their everyday horn playing and take home to their ensembles. Adult Experience members will participate in lessons geared toward improving their horn playing, classes to improve aural skills, and sessions to develop general confidence as musicians. Adult Experience is for adult amateur horn players.
